Kalamazoo Hackett Boys Golf Wins Back-to-Back State Championships
After wrapping up its second consecutive KVA title, the Kalamazoo Hackett boys golf team set its sights on winning one other back-to-back championship - the MHSAA State Finals. The Irish completed that feat at Eastern Michigan University on June 12th as they bested second-place West Michigan Christian by two strokes.

Olivet Softball Wins State Championship, Splits KVA Crown
The Olivet softball team, ranked #1 in Division III for most of the season, captured the MHSAA State Championship on Saturday, June 19th in Battle Creek. The Eagles defeated Allen Park Cabrini in the 11th inning to win its first ever softball championship. Pitcher Chelsea Sundberg received the Miss Softball award, given to the top high school softball player in Michigan.
 
In KVA play, Olivet and Kalamazoo Christian split the league championship. Both teams finished with league records of 17-1 and split a mid-season doubleheader.

Pennfield Wins KVA Baseball Championship
The Pennfield baseball team won the KVA Championship for the first time since the 2001-02 season. The Panthers racked up 16 league wins against only one loss as they won the championship outright.

KVA Track Champions Crowned
The KVA track championship meet was held on Wednesday, May 26th at Constantine High School. After entering the championship meet an unblemished KVA record, the Schoolcraft girls team ran away with the overall KVA Championship. On the boys side, Maple Valley avenged an earlier loss to Delton Kellogg and won the championship meet. Delton Kellogg and Maple Valley split the overall KVA Championship. Kalamazoo Hackett Wins KVA Girls Soccer Championship
The Kalamazoo Hackett girls soccer team, ranked #1 in MHSAA Division IV, capped off the KVA season with a 1-0 victory over Kalamazoo Christian in the league tournament championship game. Undefeated during theh regular KVA season, Hackett earned a bye in the first round of the tournament, then defeated Olivet, 7-0, to advance to the championship game.

KVA Announces 2010 Football Classic Sponsored by PNC Bank
The Kalamazoo Valley Association held a press conference on Thursday, May 13th to announce the 2010 KVA Football Classic Sponsored by PNC Bank. The event, which will be held on August 27th and 28th, will feature all KVA schools playing their season-opening games at Waldo Stadium on the campus of Western Michigan University.
 
The schedule is as follows:
 
Friday, August 27th
Galesburg-Augusta vs. Olivet - 5:00 p.m.
Constantine vs. Maple Valley - 8:00 p.m.
 
Saturday, August 28th
Kalamazoo Hackett vs. Parchment - 2:00 p.m.
Delton Kellogg vs. Kalamazoo Christian - 5:00 p.m.
Schoolcraft vs. Pennfield - 8:00 p.m.
 
Admission is $5 per day with free parking in designated lots on WMU's campus. Maps will be posted to this site in the month leading up to the games. Commemerative t-shirts will also be available throughout the event.
 
Aside from the football games, the Volunteer Center of Greater Kalamazoo has organized a community service competition between the varsity teams with cash prizes to the three schools who log the most volunteer hours per player throughout the summer. PNC Bank will award $1000 to the team with the most hours, $600 to the second-place team, and $400 to the third-place team. The contest begins June 15th and concludes on August 15th. Although the Volunteer Center of Greater Kalamazoo has organized the competition, each school has the option to take on volunteer projects in their own communities and with their local community service centers.
 
The event was first mentioned two years ago by Tom Beals, retired athletic director at Parchment High School, and was made possible thru funding from PNC Bank and the willingness of Western Michigan University to host all five games.

Kalamazoo Hackett and Kalamazoo Christian Split Girls Tennis Crown
The Kalamazoo Hackett and Kalamazoo Christian tennis teams tied in their regular season dual match, then tied again in the KVA Tournament on Saturday, May 15th at Kalamazoo College. As a result, the two teams will split the overall KVA Championship. Schoolcraft and Galesburg-Augusta both earned the KVA Sportsmanship Awards. The completed tournament brackets are available here.

Schoolcraft Captures KVA Boys Basketball Title
With a conference record of 17-1, the Schoolcraft Eagles boys basketball team earned the outright KVA championship. The Eagles defeated Galesburg-Augusta in their final regular season contest on Thursday, March 4th. Schoolcraft reached the MHSAA Class C State Championship game during the 2008-09 season.

Olivet Earns Third Consecutive KVA Girls Basketball Championship
Olivet's varsity girls basketball team found itself in familiar territory as it wrapped up its third consecutive KVA title. The Eagles defeated rival Maple Valley on Friday, February 26th to complete the regular season with an unblemished 20-0 record. The team is also ranked #1 in Class C.

Constantine Wraps Up KVA Wrestling Title
The Constantine wrestling team completed its undefeated run through the league schedule by winning the KVA Tournament on Saturday, February 6th at Pennfield. The Falcons edged defending KVA champion Schoolcraft by five points to capture the tournament title.

KVA Promotes Cancer Awareness
The KVA  partnered with the American Cancer Society to help promote cancer awareness. On February 2nd, all member schools of the KVA participated in a league-wide "KVA For the Cure" event at the varsity girls and boys basketball games. This was  held in conjunction with the national Coaches vs. Cancer week sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. KVA Inducts Five Members Into Hall of Fame
Five new members were inducted into the KVA Hall of Fame on Wednesday, October 28th at the annual KVA Banquet. This year's class consists of Tom Beals, Administrator and Coach, Parchment; Marty DeJong, Coach, Kalamazoo Christian; Guenther Mittelstaedt, Coach, Maple Valley; Robert Mulder, Coach, Kalamazoo Christian;  and Dr. Charles Zimont, Volunteer, Constantine.
 
The inductees were introduced to the crowd of close to 200 attendees and presented with a golden lifetime pass to KVA events.
